Finnish Language and Culture
This 3-month course is designed for beginning language users, both foreign students and immigrants. The content covers basic language aspects, such as grammar, correct pronunciation and developing everyday vocabulary. Along with that , students get acquainted with Finnish society and culture. The course comprises practical exercises and reading and requires intensive self-study. The course is based on the basic level 1-2 of the National Language Proficiency Test and ensures participation in the follow-up course.
Everyone who is interested in Finnish language is welcome to attend the course regardless of age or nationality. Immigrants may check with the employment office for the criteria for applying for unemployment benefits.
Please note that students are personally responsible for their YKI-test participation fees.
Classes are Mon - Fri from 09:00 to 14:15, i.e. 5 hours per day, 25 hours per week.
NB: After completing Suomi 1, you can continue your studies in Suomi 2. If you want to start your studies straight from the second course, you should already master the language and cope with easy conversations. This is an intensive course aimed at passing the intermediate level language exam. The course introduces students to the topic of sentence theory, spoken language and practices listening comprehension. The vocabulary is expanded by reading extracts from literary works and newspapers. Achieving this goal requires active participation as well as private study.
