West Finland College Performing Arts Academy offers students the unique
opportunity to develop skills in the areas of acting, singing, dancing, composing and
script writing.
The culmination of this intensive course is a musical written, staged
and performed by the students.
The working languages of the course are Finnish and
English.
The fee includes tuition, accommodation
and meals.

OUR TEACHERS

Veli-Pekka Bäckman [Composing and music theory]
Veli-Pekka Bäckman is a multi-talented performer, composer, arranger and academic in his field. A graduate of Latin, Greek, Archeology, Arts and Languages, he speaks 7 languages and has a unique international view on production, recording and directing. He has released numerous CDs, authored a number of books, teaches piano and performs professionally on a regular basis. 

Pauli Hanhiniemi [Song writing]
Pauli Hanhiniemi is a well-known Finnish singer-song writer. He has been active in the music business since early 80s. During his career, he has collaborated with several theatre project; he has composed songs for the following musicals: Ulvova mylläri (Jyväskylän kaupunginteatteri, 2009), Anna Liisa (Tampereen Työväen Teatteri, 2011), Leipäkauppa (Pispalan Teatteri, 2016).

Marko Carlson [Dance] -
Marko Carlson achieved his Bachelor of Culture and Arts Degree from Savonia University of Applied Sciences, 2012. He actively performs nationally in various productions as dancer, singer, choreographer and director. At West Finland College, Marko is teaching ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, show dance and didactics.

Evan Schoombie [Singing] -
Evan Schoombie (BA, B.Hons Drama and Languages, Highter Education Diploma UP.). He has degrees in Literature, Education and Drama from the University of Pretoria. Evan is an award-winning performer and producer who began his career in professional musical theater and television in South Africa at the age of eight years old. He has subsequently performed and lectured all over the world. He is a published author and has a discography of many albums in 4 languages. His book "The Voice Clinic" is used internationally.

Ilaria Tucci [Speech and Drama]  
Ilaria Tucci is a professional actress graduated from the Italian National Drama Academy “Silvio D’Amico” (BA, 2002) and graduated with honors from the University of Pisa in the Sciences for Peace (MA, 2013), with a thesis which combines Applied Theatre, Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding Processes. Currently she is a Doctoral Student in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Tampere, Finland (2014 – 2018) working on a research project on activism and community based theatre.
